While COVID booster shots are being administered in high numbers, a Pennsylvania doctor is also making a push to get people their first shot of the vaccine.
Dr. Paul Offit is with the Pennsylvania School of Medicine and he said on MSNBC that if more people got vaccinated the pandemic would largely subside.
“About roughly 50 percent of this country has been fully vaccinated, and another 100 million who have been naturally infected although there is probably some overlap there. You probably have about 75 percent population immunity at this point. If you get to 90 percent population immunity, we could put this pandemic largely behind us,” Offit said. “It’s really hard to watch.”
Pennsylvania has more fully vaccinated individuals than the national average, with more than 70 percent of the adult population fully vaccinated.
Here in Butler County, the latest stats show that over 102,000 people are now fully vaccinated, with another 7,928 partially vaccinated. There have also been around 12,500 people who have received their booster shot.
As for the number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 24,366 in Butler County according to the Department of Health.
