Armstrong County has purchased a historic railroad bridge and land that could connect trails here in Butler County.
The country bought the bridge that spans the Kiski River as well as 14 miles of the former Kiski Junction Railroad. The area is expected to be developed over the next two years.
Once finished, the bridge, which was built in 1899, would connect to trails that are a continuous path in Butler, Allegheny, Clarion and Westmoreland Counties. It would also meet with pathways connecting the Erie to Pittsburgh trail.
Officials are hoping to see business growth stemming from the move, which could include lodging and food.
The cost of the bridge and land was $3.5 million.
