Motorcycle riders and enthusiasts will want to make sure they stop by an event sponsored by a local organization this weekend. Eric Mershimer is President of the Butler County Chapter of A.B.A.T.E.
“Motorcycle swap meet; the old style swap meet where you bring parts and people come in and take a look at them and buy old used parts that someone doesn’t want anymore. It’s real cheap to get in to sell them and it’s real cheap to go buy them.”
The flea market for motorcycle parts will be held at the East Butler Fire Hall Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A.B.A.T.E. stands for Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education. After the organization achieved their original goal of changing Pennsylvania’s motorcycle helmet law, Mershimer says they have since focused on informing the public about issues that matter to motorcyclists.
“They do a bunch of programs for the high schools and so on educating people on watching out for motorcycles is a big thing. The big yellow signs that are all over the state is from A.B.A.T.E. and they went together and got all those signs we distributed them throughout the state in everybody’s yard and so on so that’s all our stuff.”
This group meets the third Sunday of every month at 11:30 a.m. at the Belmont 2 on Route 8 north and everyone interested is welcome to attend.
