Crews were on the scene of a serious school bus crash this morning in Adams Township.
The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of Three Degree Road.
The cause of the crash is unknown, but dispatchers originally said it was a two-vehicle crash but when crews arrived on scene the school bus was the only vehicle involved in the accident.
The bus driver was heavily entrapped, bleeding, and unconscious. Extraction was required to remove him from the bus.
There were around 20 elementary students on the A.J. Myers & Sons owned school bus at the time of the crash. Dispatchers say there were multiple injuries. Police say at least two students were taken to the hospital, along with the driver. Their current conditions are not known.
“Mars Area School District is aware of an accident involving one of our elementary school buses along Three Degree Road. District personnel are at the scene and working with first responders to assess the situation and evaluate those students who were on the bus at the time of the accident. The District will provide addition information to our school community, when it becomes available,” a district spokesperson said in an email.
There multiple ambulances that were called to the scene after the crash.
Three Degree Road was between Route 228 and near the Adams Township Park was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
