Firefighters from eight departments battled a house fire on Monday in Karns City that ended up destroying at least half of a duplex.
The fire started about 12:30 p.m. at a home on Main Street in the borough, near the Karns City High School.
Petrolia Fire Chief Chuck Barnes said no one inside the home was injured but a passerby who had stopped to help rescue a pet was bitten. The injury is not believed to be severe.
Three dogs were able to safely escape the fire but two died.
Barnes said an electrician was at the house earlier in the day investigating some electrical problems that had occurred over the weekend. A fire marshal is investigating the exact cause.
The Red Cross was called in to assist those displaced.
