May is National Electrical Safety Month and residents are encouraged to address potential electrical hazards around the house.
The National Fire Protection Association is reminding people about this year’s theme which is “Connected to Safety” with a focus on emerging technology such as solar panels and electric vehicles.
The organization is recommending homeowners learn about surge protection devices, use grounded outlets, and use a smart plug or power strip to turn off power when not in use.
The NFPA also says that residents should always have a qualified electrician install temporary power at any work site and consider all overhead lines to be live, energized, and dangerous.
