The National Fire Protection Association is warning teenagers about the dangers of the most recent viral video challenge on social media.
According to the organization, high school students in Massachusetts have been filming videos called the #outletchallenge.
These videos show teens partially inserting a cellphone charger plug into an outlet and then sliding a penny down the wall and onto the exposed prongs. This causes sparks and damage to the electrical system and has the possibility to create fires, electrocution, and injury.
The National Fire Protection Association is offering resources on their website designed to protect teens from this dangerous behavior and other viral video challenge activities.
