With the summer in full swing and many people enjoying time in water, an organization is alerting residents about the possibility of shock and drowning.
The National Fire Protection Association is reminding people about the potential electrical hazards that come with owning a pool or hot tub, as well as issues with boats and marinas.
The organization is warning of electric shock drowning which happens when electrical systems leak an electric current into the water.
Swimmers should avoid marinas, docks, and boatyards. Pool owners should check pool lights to make sure they’re working and be sure all wiring is properly installed. Boat owners should have ground fault circuit protection installed on circuits supplying electricity to the boat.
