Starting last week, teachers in Butler County started receiving their COVID-19 vaccine.
Members of the National Guard are assisting with that process, and they so far the process has went well.
“We’ve got medics providing vaccinations, we’ve got nurses providing oversight, and we’ve got general purpose forces helping out and keeping the process moving,” First Seargent Matt Smith of the Pennsylvania National Guard said.
The Johnson and Johnson vaccine has been administered at Intermediate Units by the National Guard—an opportunity they are excited to be a part of according to Smith.
“My soldiers who are here working this mission, they volunteered to do this. They left their civilian jobs and other responsibilities to take part in this mission, knowing that they are in their community helping out,” Smith said.
The state received nearly 100,000 doses of the J&J vaccine, which only requires one shot instead of two.
