As storms roll through the area on Wednesday, the National Weather Service is reminding people to be safe and go indoors.
The NWS says if you are outside and hear thunder, than you are likely within striking distance of lightning. They say too many people wait too long to get to a safe place when thunderstorms approach, which lead to lightning deaths and injuries.
“The only completely safe action from lightning is to get inside a safe building or vehicle. So plan ahead if you are going to spend the day camping, climbing, or doing other outdoor sports,” according to NWS-Pittsburgh.
You’re also reminded to wait 30 minutes after a storm to resume your outdoor activities.
