WPIAL Girls Soccer Playoffs:
–North Catholic defeated Shady Side Academy 3-1 in the Class 2A Semifinals. Makenzie DeBlassio, Lauren MacDonald and Teyha Dave scored goals for the Trojanettes. Jayden Sharpless had two assists. Rylee Kumer made six saves in net. North Catholic will play Avonworth Saturday at Highmark Stadium at 11am in the championship game. Avonworth defeated Southmoreland 4-1 last night in the other 2A Semifinal. North Catholic is now 17-1 this season.
–The Mars Girls defeated Montour 1-0 and have reached the 3A title game. It was the third time this season Mars defeated their section rivals. The Planets carry five consecutive shutouts into the championship game. Mars is unbeaten in 58 games. They are 15-0-1 this season. They will meet Plum, who defeated South Fayette 2-0 in the other 3A Semifinal game. The championship game will begin at 1:15pm Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.
–The Seneca Valley Boys Soccer team defeated Fox Chapel 1-0 last night to reach the WPIAL 4A championship game this weekend. Nathan Prex scored the lone goal of the game. Seneca Valley are the defending PIAA champions and have won two of the past three WPIAL titles. The Raiders are 17-0-1 this season. They had battled to a 2-2 tie with Fox Chapel in a Section-1 match October 5th. Seneca Valley will meet Peters Township at Highmark Stadium Saturday at 5:45pm. Peters Township eliminated North Allegheny 4-1 in the other 4A Semifinal last night.
