Top seeded Gonzaga won its 34th game in a row last night with an 85-66 victory over Southern Cal in the West Region final of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Zags have now won an NCAA Division I record 27 games in a row by double digits. They also became the first Division I program in history to have five 30-win seasons in a row,
UCLA upset top seed Michigan 51-49 to win the East Region. UCLA became just the second team to come out of a First Four game and reach the Final Four since Virginia Commonwealth in 2011. The Bruins entered the tournament as a #11 seed.
The Saturday match-ups will see undefeated Gonzaga face UCLA. Baylor will meet Houston. The winners play in the title game Monday.
In the women’s tournament last night, #1-seed South Carolina defeated Texas 62-34 to reach the Final Four. The Longhorns scored the fewest points in a regional final in women’s tournament history.
Top overall seed Stanford came back from a 12-point second half deficit to defeat Louisville 78-63. The Cardinals will meet South Carolina Friday in a rematch of the 2017 women’s national semifinals. UConn and Arizona will meet in the other semifinal.
