Although some details still need to be worked out, a new agreement could allow Butler City kids the opportunity to cool down at Butler Township’s Alameda Waterpark this summer for free.
The Grace Youth and Family Foundation has arranged free transportation for kids to Alameda. Details have not yet been released regarding how many trips per day, or week, will happen.
The foundation has provided a summer recreation program for city kids in years past and will do so again this summer at Rotary Park, Father Marinaro Park, and Institute Hill Park in the city. This transportation program will now be a part of that.
“For years, people have bemoaned the fact that the city’s Memorial Park has closed,” Councilman Jeff Smith said during a meeting Tuesday. “It may not be as great as having the pool at Memorial Park, but now city kids will at least get to experience swimming.”
The city will pay for the children to swim. Their transportation to the waterpark will also be free.
The entire summer program- which is held at the city parks weekdays all summer and includes lunch- will cost the city about $8,000.
