A new bill aims to make tractor trailer weigh stations more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Republican Senator Judy Ward says the legislation would direct PennDOT to make an electronic weigh station bypass system for trucks traveling across the state.
“This system would incentive carriers to maintain their safety record and provide credentials to law enforcement in advance,” Ward said. “As well, the system would use GPS technology which requires no infrastructure or transponder hardware to be implemented.”
Ward adds that this bill would eliminate traffic congestion at weigh stations, reduce emissions from trucks, and also reduce transportation costs.
