A new statewide authority has been created to help expand broadband services.
Governor Tom Wolf signed legislation establishing the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority.
The authority will handle a minimum of $100 million of federal funding coming to the state designated for broadband, which Democratic Senator Judy Schwank of Berks County says will help farmers.
“Farmers are now using technology on tractors and other equipment that absolutely has to have broadband access,” Schwank said.
An estimated 800,000 people in the state don’t have access to broadband or high speed internet.
