A residence in Butler Township will likely be used as a day-care and pre-school home following a decision by the Butler Township Zoning Hearing Board.
After hearing an appeal made by the owner of the property at 107 Ayleshire Road, the Board voted to grant a special exception that will allow use for that purpose. This should not be confused with a day care or pre-school “facility” which is a larger operation and not permitted in areas zoned R1 Residential. This ruling does not change how any area of the Township is zoned.
The special exception is required for this use because properties in that area are zoned only as residences. According to the owner, who has been a teacher for 20 years, the house was used by her mother as a day care and pre-school 40 years ago. A neighbor expressed some concern about traffic and increased noise due to the yards being fenced in as play areas.
The home would be open from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for four to six students ages toddler through 6 years. The pre-school and day care is expected to open as soon as the owner is granted state certification in about three months.
