Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced Monday that a new 10-year deal is in place between health care giants UPMC and Highmark.
This means Highmark members will have in-network access to UPMC doctors and hospitals for years to come.
The agreement came just six days before thousands of Highmark members would’ve lost access to UPMC doctors on June 30.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf gave credit to the attorney general and leaders of both organizations for stepping up to make sure this problem was resolved.
State Rep. Marci Mustello– who represents a portion of residents in Butler– was among the lawmakers to commend the deal between the two healthcare providers, calling it “great news for families, seniors, and veterans in our region who can now focus on their health instead of worrying about their health care provider.”
