Butler Township is applying for grant money in order to make improvements to local parks.
Township Commissioners passed a motion Wednesday night to comply with the requirements of the Butler County Parks Renovation Program in order to file their application before it is due later this month.
According to Township Manager Tom Knights, the money will go towards three outdoor picnic tables, three ADA accessible picnic tables, replacement of tables at the recreation center, and portable pickleball nets for use on the dek hockey facility.
Under this program, the township is responsible for 25 percent of the cost of the project, in this case about $3,000 and Butler County pays for the remaining $7,500. The township has previously received financial help through this grant to make improvements to Preston Park.
Once the application has been submitted, a committee from the county is expected to review requests and decide which ones can be funded with notification issued sometime in late April or early May.
