A new law will aid domestic violence survivors’ unemployment benefits.
Governor Josh Shapiro signed the bill that will efficiently aid those having to quit their working situation to escape domestic violence situations.
The bill aims to create an “express lane” for claimants without requiring a copy of a protective order or police report. According to the bill’s memo, speeding up the process would “reduce the burden on survivors of domestic violence who may be in danger if they continue their employment.”
Employer’s tax rate will also not be changed if a survivor has to leave their place of work.
The bill passed the legislature with bipartisan support.
