A new law taking effect extends the validity period of a commercial drivers permit in Pennsylvania and also increases penalties on commercial drivers found to be responsible for human trafficking.
According to PennDOT Act 131 of 2020 will extend the validity period of a commercial learner’s permit from 180 days to one year. The one year permit is now allowed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. It also allows for more convenience and time for drivers to prepare for their skills test.
This act also disqualifies an individual from operating a commercial motor vehicle for life if they are convicted of using a commercial motor vehicle to commit certain forms of severe human trafficking.
