The Diocese of Pittsburgh has a new leader.
Bishop Mark Eckman has been named the 13th Bishop of Pittsburgh by Pope Leo XIV. Eckman has served the diocese as an Auxiliary Bishop since 2022 and previously as a longtime parish priest.
Bishop David Zubik reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 last September and officially resigned Wednesday morning.
Bishop Eckman will be installed on Monday, July 14, 2025, during a special Mass at Saint Paul Cathedral in Oakland.
