The new plans for the former Butler Junior High and Middle School will be a mixed-use facility that includes condos and mid-size commercial spaces.
After the highest bidder withdrew their bid for the facility, real estate developer Sumner McDanel will purchase the building for $450,000.
Current plans for the building will see between 24 to 30 units, each two to three bedrooms. Plans shared with media show the condos will be “mid to upper-scale residential units,” but McDanel wants to keep them affordable.
“We have to recognize this is not Cranberry, and people in Butler exist on a budget so it has to be friendly,” McDanel said.
According to McDanel, the first floor of the building will be subdivided to accommodate small to mid-sized businesses. It could include businesses like fitness and health facilities, mom and pop retail stores, barber shops, professional offices, restaurants and more.
McDanel says he’s unsure of all the work necessary for the building but that won’t stop his vision for the facility.
“I don’t have all the answers on this project, but I do have a vision for it and I do believe God is going to breathe on it and it will come to pass,” McDanel said.
The sale will be finalized in 35 days and because zoning matches McDanel’s intentions work could start there soon after.
