A new proposed bill would try to expand training opportunities for high school students interested in becoming a firefighter.
Senator Michelle Brooks says the legislation would create a pilot program for community colleges and universities in the state system.
“To provide high school students with fire training instruction through partnerships among school districts, area career and technical schools, intermediate or charter schools with institutions of higher education,” Brooks said.
If the proposal passes, Brooks says the state fire commissioner would select institutions across all regions of Pennsylvania to serve as a training location.
