The Mars Area School District is moving forward with the construction of new tennis courts.
After hearing from project managers at their meeting, the School Board voted to approve a bid from Dun Rite Construction and Paving in the amount of nearly $538,000 for five courts along with an east/west sidewalk.
This plan also includes electric set-up to allow for lighting in the future accomplished by Westmoreland Electrical Group in the amount of just over $101,000. The district is expected to apply for a $40,000 to $50,000 grant from the National Tennis Association.
Now that the bids for the project have been awarded, the construction period is expected to begin later this month once the students have finished their season and finish in time for another season to begin in August.
