The National Fire Protection Association has announced this year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week.
‘Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. – Fire Can Happen Anywhere’ is meant to remind people of recent stats that show if you have a reported fire in your home, you are more likely to die today than you were a few decades ago.
The theme is also meant to identify three basic, but essential, ways people can reduce their risk of a fire or be prepared in the event of one:
-Look for places fire can start
-Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm
-Learn two ways out of each room, and a path from each exit to the outside
Officials say the majority of fire deaths in the United States (four out of every five) happen at home.
National Fire Prevention Week will be October 7 through the 13.
