The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs began last night for the first time since 2006 without the Pittsburgh Penguins in them. The two teams the Pens chased for the second half of the season for a Wild Card spot played last night, and lost in the Eastern Conference First Round.
–The Boston Bruins defeated the Florida Panthers 3-1.
–The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders 2-1.
In the Western Conference:
–The Los Angeles Kings erased a two-goal deficit in the third period and defeated Edmonton 4-3 in overtime.
–Minnesota defeated Dallas 3-2 in double overtime.
NBA Playoffs:
–The Sacramento Kings took a 2-0 series lead over the Golden State Warriors after a 114-106 victory last night. It is the first time since 2007 that Golden State has dropped the first two games of a series.
–Philadelphia took a 2-0 series lead with a 96-84 win over Brooklyn.
