Nicholas Abraham Monday, 85, of Butler, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sun., April 24, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Nick was born in Butler on Dec. 11, 1936, and was the youngest of five children of the late Tony Monday, Sr. and Angelina Mariano Monday.
Nick was a 1955 graduate of Butler High School. He graduated from Grove City College in 1959 with a degree in business. While at Grove City College, Nick met the love of his life, Patricia “Patsy” Donati Monday, whom he married July 4, 1959. Nick and Patsy had three sons: Michael, Christopher, and Peter.
Nick was part-owner of Monday’s Shoes in downtown Butler until his retirement in 1998.
After his retirement, Nick served the Butler community by volunteering at the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, initially at the thrift store, then at the food pantry, for nearly 18 years.
He was a member of the Saint Michael Greek Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lyndora.
Nick was an avid gardener, and he enjoyed sharing his harvest with his neighbors.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher Monday and his wife, Barbara, of Butler, and Peter Monday and his wife, Denise, of Renfrew; his daughter-in-law, Karen Monday, of Butler; one granddaughter, Katlyn Swartzlander and her husband, Justin, of Cabot; three grandsons, Nathan, Luke and Logan Monday, of Renfrew; a sister-in-law, Maxine Johasky, of Florida; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was expecting his first great-grandchild in August.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia “Patsy” Donati Monday, who passed away Jan. 10, 1997; one son, Michael Monday, who passed away Jan. 6, 2021; two brothers, Henry Monday, Sr. and Tony Monday, Jr.; his sister, Mary Baccari, and an infant sister, Josephine Monday.
Friends will be received on Sat., April 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler.
A Panychyda Service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Douglas Lorance, pastor of Saint Michael Greek Ukrainian Catholic Church, officiating.
