The Mars Area School Board does not anticipate the need to raise taxes in order to meet their 2022-23 school year budget.
The proposed budget for next year is nearly 3% or just over $1.5 million more than the current budget of just over $55 million.
Mars expects local revenue growth to continue in the upcoming year with all teachers and staff to be retained while six teaching positions will be added. Mars also plans to add a school counselor, an IT Senior Network Engineer, and an IT Level IIA Technician. Cyber Charter tuition expenses have decreased by nearly a half million with the return of 33 students to the district but this expense is still nearly a million dollars more than pre-pandemic.
This proposed budget is available for public review through the Mars website well as at the District’s school buildings and administration offices. Parents and community members may submit budget-related questions or comments to Mars Area School Board via e-mail or at next month’s public board meetings.
The board is expected to vote to adopt the final budget in June.
