A state police fire marshal was at a Butler City home Thursday morning investigating what caused a fire last night.
Butler City Fire Captain Kevin McAfee said the fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. at a two-story home in the 100 block of Cleveland Street.
Firefighters’ primary concern was making sure no one was inside.
“Initially, we were told no one was inside but when we got there, someone said they weren’t sure,” McAfee said in an interview. “But it turned out everybody was out.”
Four adults and one infant live at that home. The Red Cross is assisting them.
The fire appeared to be coming from the kitchen. Damage is estimated at $25,000 in damage done to the home and another $20,000 for lost contents.
