Oakland Township will enter into a deal with another local municipality regarding police services.
By a vote of 2 to 1, Township Supervisors approved a cooperation agreement through the end of this year for part-time police services with Saxonburg Borough.
The details of this agreement have not yet been worked out and this does not replace the State Police. Residents will not see a tax increase to pay for this agreement as the Township plans to seek out grants.
A trial period began last Halloween and wrapped up February 6th including 20 to 24 hours of service per week at a cost of nearly $39 per hour. Oakland Township has not received coverage from Saxonburg Police since that time.
The Board of Supervisors discussed how the trial period went at their February and March meetings before the vote Wednesday night. Saxonburg has not yet approved this agreement but service would begin after that takes place.
