Oakland Township is entering into a trial deal with another local municipality regarding police services.
At a meeting earlier this week, Township Supervisors approved a three-month cooperation agreement for part-time police services with Saxonburg Borough.
This does not replace the State Police as the trial period includes 20 to 24 hours of service per week at a cost of nearly $39 per hour. Residents will not see a tax increase to pay for this agreement as the Township plans to seek out grants.
The trial begins on Halloween and wraps up February 6th. The Board of Supervisors will discuss how the trial period is going at their January 6th meeting and could pass an ordinance to continue the agreement February the 5th.
