AAA is reminding drivers to be on high alert this time of year as the number of deer-related vehicle accidents increase.
The number of deer crashes starts to rise in October, and peaks in Western Pennsylvania in November and December.
Last year, there were more than 5,800 deer related accidents in the Keystone State.
The peak times for deer accidents happen from 5-8 a.m. and 5-8 p.m.
AAA is offering a couple of reminders for drivers…
- Deer usually travel in packs; so if you see one, there may be more following.
- Resist the urge to swerve and don’t change lanes.
- If the crash is imminent, take your foot off the brake. Letting off the brake can protect drivers from having deer fly into their windshield.
