This week’s “Open Championship” golf tournament in Scotland is raising its prize fund by $500,000 to $17 million, the smallest of the four majors and 28th in size against all of men’s professional golf. It is still a record purse for “The Open”, with the winner receiving $3.1 million. The runner-up will pocket just under $2 million. By comparison, Bryson DeChambeau won $4.3 million for winning the U.S. Open, which had a $21.5 million purse. Scottie Scheffler’s Masters win netted him $3.6 million of a $20 million prize total.
Odds for winning “The Open” were released Monday. Scheffler is the betting favorite at 5-1. DeChambeau is next at 8-1.
