With the new school year underway, officials are reminding students to stay safe when walking to school.
Alyson Fulton of the American Trauma Society says crossing the street can be dangerous and urges kids to make sure they’re being careful.
“It’s important for kids of all ages to understand that when you cross the street, you look left, then right, and then left again,” Fulton said. “You look left again because that’s the direction the traffic closest to you will be coming.”
Fulton also warns students to not get distracted by their phones.
“A lot of kids like to listen to music or talk on the phone, but you need to put your devices down and get your headphones off,” Fulton said. “If you have headphones on, you may not hear that car coming or car beeping.”
