Officials are warning state residents to be on the lookout for a text message scam targeting those who receive SNAP benefits.
The program is formally known as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program and officials say some scammers are texting people claiming that their EBT card has been deactivated. It then directs you to call a number to reactivate it.
Officials say this is a scam. The state will never text an individual to say that an EBT card has been deactivated; they will also never ask for personal information in a text, email or phone call.
