At the Olympics Tuesday:
–The U.S. women’s gymnastics team, led by Simone Biles, captured gold in Paris. It was their third gold medal in the last four trips to the Summer Olympics. With the medal, Biles now has eight in her career, and passed Shannon Miller for most all-time among U.S. gymnasts.
–The U.S. men’s soccer team defeated Guinea 3-0 to reach the quarterfinals. They have reached what is known as the “knock-out phase” of the tournament for the first time since the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
–Both United States 3-on-3 basketball teams dropped opening decisions Tuesday. The U.S. men fell to Serbia 22-14. The women’s team, who are defending gold medal champions, lost to Germany 17-13.
