This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and presents a unique opportunity for many residents and organizations to celebrate together online.
The Carnegie Science Center is hosting a virtual Earth Week celebration on social media beginning Monday with a theme involving food-related activities. Each day will include a list of something to read, something to watch, and something to do posted at 8 a.m. along with a Facebook live at 10:30 a.m. and a simple science activity at noon.
The Pittsburgh Zoo is also marking the occasion with a special celebration on Wednesday of Wild Earth Day. Even though the Zoo remains closed, free virtual offerings will include educational animal videos and activities.
