With temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees today, the United State’s Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is reminding employers to protect workers from heat.
Heat illness, especially for outdoor workers, is a danger in conditions with excessive heat and humidity.
Employers can protect workers by providing water, frequent rest breaks, and shade. It is also important to allow employees time to build a tolerance for working in the heat as well as developing an emergency action plan.
A free heat safety app developed by OSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is available to plan outdoor work activities based on how hot it feels throughout the day.
