The owners of a downtown Butler building damaged by fire earlier this month have decided to repair the structure.
Building Code Official John Evans told our newsroom that Alpine Apartments (who owns the building at 138 West Jefferson Street) has notified the city that they will begin the rebuilding process.
According to Evans, the owners are looking for a contractor to first repair the roof of the building to prevent further damage due to weather. In the next couple weeks, the owners will schedule a walk-thru with city building inspectors to review a plan for the work that is required to bring the building back into full code compliance.
Due to a large fire on Jan. 10, the western half of the commercial building (that also housed the China Palace Restaurant) sustained fire and severe structural damage while the eastern half mostly has smoke and water damage.
