Pennsylvania’s Agriculture Secretary has updated lawmakers on the state’s efforts to control the Spotted Lanternfly.
It’s been almost five years since the insect was first detected in Pennsylvania, posting a threat to crops, hardwoods and other agricultural sectors.
Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding told state lawmakers that experts have had to develop their own strategy since Pennsylvania was the first U.S. state to be affected by this pest, which is native to Asia.
The state has budgeted $3 million to fight the pest, along with another $17 million in federal funding.
