Governor Tom Wolf has signed a bill into law that will raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco and e-cigarettes in Pennsylvania.
The new law requires a person to be 21 or older to buy tobacco products in the state. Wolf explains his feelings on this subject.
“I want to make sure that kids are not adopting addictive behavior. We should not expose our children to addictive behavior and smoking with nicotine is something that is addictive.”
This legislation also expands the definition of a tobacco product to include e-cigarettes and vaping products as well as prohibits possession of those items on school grounds.
The American Lung Association has expressed disappointment about an exception in the bill that allows for active duty military and veterans to purchase tobacco if they are over 18.
