As the state’s opioid epidemic continues, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health is urging more people to learn how to save the life of someone who has overdosed.
Dr. Rachel Levine says a new training video is available online which educates people about how to administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone.
“The video actually walks someone through the steps of how to provide Naloxone through either the nasal spray or the injector,” she said.
Dr. Levine encourages every Pennsylvania to get Naloxone because whether you have a loved one of friend with an opioid addiction or not, she says you never know when you might need it.
Earlier this month, Butler County officials used federal grant money to purchase 600 double-pack kits of the opioid reversal drug Naloxone, or Narcan.
Some of the drug will be kept in county buildings. Most kits will be distributed to outpatient treatment providers, recovery houses, school nurses and community members.
