Pennsylvania lawmakers are not expected to pass a new congressional map before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s deadline- which is Friday.
But, Republican leaders in the state legislature say they hope to have a plan passed in the coming days.
Aides to the top-ranking GOP lawmakers, House Speaker Mike Turzai and Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, told the Associated Press that they may send the governor a map by Friday’s deadline without a vote in either chamber, and then attempt to pass it as legislation in the following days.
The state high court ruled last month that Pennsylvania’s congressional district map violated the state constitution by giving Republicans an unfair partisan advantage in campaigns.
All of Butler County is included in the 3rd Congressional District and is represented by Mike Kelly. Three Democratic challengers have announced their intention to run.
