Pennsylvania residents are facing an ultimatum- gun ownership or medical marijuana.
The commonwealth begins its medical marijuana program this year, but in order to obtain the license for the drug, you may not be able to own a gun.
The issue is state vs. federal law. Under Pennsylvania state law, medical marijuana is legal and is no bar to gun ownership. But under federal law, it’s illegal and could keep you from owning a firearm.
It’s unclear if Pennsylvania authorities- including the state police- will enforce the federal law over the state law.
Twenty-nine states have legalized marijuana in some form. Pennsylvania legalized it for medicinal use almost two years ago, but under federal law it is still banned.
