Motorists on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will no longer have the option to use cash as soon as two years from now.
The Turnpike Commission continues to convert toll points along the highway to cashless All-Electronic Tolling with the remaining sections scheduled to be changed over in the fall of 2021.
80 percent of Turnpike travelers currently use the E-ZPass system and any remaining holdouts will receive a PA Turnpike Toll By Plate bill in the mail once the conversion is complete.
The Turnpike Commissioners have committed to no employee layoffs before 2022 with collectors continuing to staff plazas to offer guidance and aid customers during the transition and familiarization period.
