The Pennsylvania Turnpike has issued its first-round of criminal charges for drivers who have unpaid tolls.
This is all part of a stepped-up enforcement program, which turnpike officials hope will help garner some of the more than $17 million in unpaid tolls floating around. Aside from criminal charges, PennDOT has also suspended the vehicle registrations of 83 motorists with unpaid tolls of more than $500 who commit new violations.
Motorists who have received numerous notices about unpaid tolls are urged to respond quickly before charges are filed. Last year, data showed over 1,500 motorists in Butler County owed more than $105,000 in outstanding tolls.
