The San Diego Padres shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 last night in the opening game of a three-game series at PNC Park.
The game was delayed for more than two and a half hours when a thunderstorm hit the Pittsburgh area in the second inning. After the delay, the Pirates managed four singles. Rowdy Tellez had a double in the first inning, but did not score. San Diego broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning.
Bailey Falter started the game, and did not allow a run on two hits over the first two innings. The Padres ended the game with 14 hits.
The loss was the Pirates fourth in their last five games after a three-game winning streak.
The two teams meet again tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm.
Tuesday night’s delay was one of the longest in PNC Park history. The Pirates organization gave fans in attendance for the game complimentary tickets for another game.
