Two people are in custody in connection to a fatal stabbing and shooting that happened nearly two years ago.
Police were called to a home on College Street in the City of Butler back on December 5, 2021. When they arrived, 31-year-old Hakeem Moran was in the front yard and had been shot and stabbed multiple times. He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Police say during their investigation they found that the shooting stemmed from an attempted drug robbery. The suspects were soon identified as 36-year-old Hassan Brack and 30-year-old Brooke Fair Smith, both of Butler.
Video evidence connected a vehicle to the crime, with police saying the same vehicle was also suspected to be used in previous drug deals.
Soon, investigators looked to obtain DNA samples from both Brack and Fair Smith after finding cigarettes and other items inside the vehicle. They were not able to get those samples until late last year.
The pair is both being charged with criminal homicide.
