The state budget recently signed into law will see an increase in funding for crime intervention and prevention.
The new budget will include a 10 percent increase to a grant program that officials say reduce community violence by relying on community groups.
The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency will be receiving an additional $5.5 million for the Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program.
The program provides funding to local organizations that are more in tune with the needs of the community to prevent crime.
With the increase in funding, $33.8 million is available for counties and treatment-focused sentencing alternatives through these grants.
