Peak Alert season is now underway and Central Electric Cooperative is reminding members to be on the lookout for announcements about periods of high demand.
These alerts will be issued on the radio or online when demand is highest on hot, humid weekday afternoons between 1 and 7 p.m. through September.
After hearing an alert announcement, members are asked to turn off all non-essential electric items such as dehumidifiers and pool pumps as well as set air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.
This will help stabilize future power costs for all members by decreasing electricity use when the price is highest.
